Many challenges exist in current big data era. These include how to store enormous amount of data for a very long time, how to identify the relevant data from the available data, and how to process data efficiently. In this talk, he will introduce several emerging storage technologies including Shingled Magnetic Recording drives, Non-Volatile Memory and related technologies. Can these emerging technologies help solve big data problems? With the boundary of memory and storage becoming blurred, what are to be changed in computer architecture, operating systems and software applications?
