High School Students Compete in a Programing Competition

The UTDallas Spring High School Programming Contest was held on February 15th 2014.  The Computer Science (CS) Department organizes the contest each term.  Over 200 students participated in the contest.  A great deal of planning and preparation was done in advance by the CS Department.  Dr. Jay Veerasamy organized the event.  Dr. Ivor Page created and tested two sets of program problems – one set for the Novice Category and one set for the Advanced Category.  Dr. Gopal Gupta, CS Department Head, provided support for this popular event.  Many CS graduate students were available during the competition to provide support and encouragement to the students.

Registration was free, thanks to the sponsor, Awesome Math (www.awesomemath.org).  The event could not have taken place without the students and their teachers who organized the teams and transportation.  Many students traveled by bus.

The results and problem solutions are available online (www.UTDallas.edu/k12).  The top three teams in the Advanced and Novice Categories are listed below.

In addition to the High School Programming Contest held each term, Dr. Jay Veerasamy organizes many workshops at UTDallas and at nearby high schools and facilities.  A complete list of Computer Science Outreach workshops and upcoming events is available online at:  www.UTDallas.edu/k12/calendar.
