Personal Interests of Sanda Harabagiu
For the past decade I have been fascinated with the complexities and subtleties of human communications. Whenever people open their mouth, the words they use indicate so much about their thoughts, feelings, background and even beliefs and hopes. It takes a baby a few years to acquire language, so one wonders why is it so difficult to capture the pragmatics of human communications and to encode it in computational procedures.

As I am continuously wondering about the semantics of language I am also always willing to learn new languages, natural or formal. And then I am glad to practice them when I meet fellow collegues and friends interested in the research of natural language. It often happens that such meetings are organized in exciting places, where I can enjoy a visit to a museum or two. Take a look here at some of my favorite paintings.
Here are some of the past symposia and workshops that I have organized:

(PAST) I was the co-chair of the 2002 International Symposium on Reference Resolution for Natural Language Processing, June 3-4 2002, Alicante, Spain. See www.
