Guide2Research Ranks UT Dallas CS in the Top 100 CS Universities in 2020

This fall, Guide2Research released the latest edition of the annual ranking for top computer science and electronics universities across the United States and the world. According to Guide2Research’s University Ranking for Computer Science, the University of Texas at Dallas ranked #91 globally and #51 in the United States. By ranking the top computer science and electronics universities in the world, Guide2Research seeks to inspire researchers, decision-makers, and entrepreneurs around the world to find out where leading experts work and carry out their research. The rankings provide people around the world the opportunity to learn which institutions and countries host the leading experts in computer science. The annual release of Guide2Researchs ranking is regularly featured by leading universities worldwide, including the UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University, Stanford Robotics Lab, and the University of Texas at Dallas, and it is an excellent means of exploring where computer research leaders’ experts are located. “I am thrilled that the CS Department at UT Dallas continues to excel in research-based rankings. The ranking is unique, as its main focus is on measuring the influence and contributions of researchers and scholars from each institution based on objective data reflecting the reputation of academic scholars. This metric is frequently missing from other popular rankings. For the 2020 edition of the ranking, more than 4500 scientist profiles from 640+ universities were examined with several indicators and metrics reviewed in order to consider each institution’s inclusion in the ranking. The position in the ranking is based on a total sum of H-index values from Google Scholar for scientists affiliated with a given university. Only contributing scientists with an H-index >= 40 and a significant number of computer science-related publications on DBLP (computer science bibliography website) were considered.

The CS Department at UT Dallas has done well in other research-based rankings such as csrankings.org, where its research in Natural Language Processing is ranked 8th nationally, Software Engineering is ranked 5th nationally, and Embedded and Real-Time Systems is ranked 7th nationally, based on data from csrankings.org (’10-’20 period). The department also has done well in placement rankings, placing twenty-first in the 2015 LinkedIn ranking that measured the placement of software developers in top companies. Great Value Colleges ranked the top 40 best colleges in the U.S. for Artificial Intelligence, placing UT Dallas Computer Science Department as the fifth-best college for undergraduate studies in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The website Computer Science Degree Hub Rankings placed the UT Dallas CS department’s Computer Science Bachelors and Masters Programs in the top 50 universities that offer CS Degree Programs. More recently, the website Best Computer Science Schools ranked the 25 Best Colleges to earn a Bachelor’s in Software Engineering Degrees placing UT Dallas Computer Science Department as the ninth-best university. Cyber Degrees EDU recently ranked the UT Dallas CS Department and its Cyber Security Institute as the 14th Best School to earn your Cyber Security Master’s Degree.


ABOUT THE UT DALLAS COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

The UT Dallas Computer Science program is one of the largest Computer Science departments in the United States with over 3,600 bachelors-degree students, more than 800 master’s students, 160Ph.D. students,  51 tenure-track faculty members, and 44 full-time senior lecturers, as of Fall 2020.
