Three-hundred Graduates attend the UT Dallas CS Fall 2015 Graduation Luncheon
Friends, family, and UT Dallas Computer Science faculty and staff came together last December to celebrate the achievements of the UT Dallas Fall 2015 Computer Science and Software Engineering graduating class. To recognize the dedication and hard work of the fall 2015 graduating class, the UT Dallas Computer Science Department hosted a luncheon before the commencement ceremonies with guest speaker Bruce Graham, President of Tyler Technologies (Prison and Jail Division). New this year, the UT Dallas CS graduates had their own commencement ceremony separate from the rest of engineering within the Erik Jonsson School. Approximately 300 CS/SE graduates, family members, and UT Dallas CS staff and faculty members attended.
Dr. Gopal Gupta, the UT Dallas CS department head, commended the graduating students for all their hard work in an opening congratulatory speech. Dr. Gupta advised the students about life after graduation saying, “One of the messages I would like to leave the graduating class with is that learning does not stop after graduation. Do not be afraid to learn new things, and keep learning. This may be one of the most critical things you can do for your survival in the real world.
Following Dr. Gupta was an inspirational speech from the guest of honor, President of Tyler Technologies (Prison and Jail Division), Mr. Bruce Graham. Bruce Graham and Tyler Technologies greatly support the work done by UT Dallas’s CS department and their students. Tyler Technologies frequently works with students on projects in the UTDesign program and has recruited many students from within the UT Dallas CS department. During his speech, Graham celebrated the students’ accomplishments and urged the students to consider three things in addition to their degrees, “cultivate your creativity, nurture your network, and bring your heart and passions to work.”
After the speeches, the CS Department awarded Certificates of Academic Excellence to the top performing CS/SE bachelor and master students. Presenting the awards were Dr. Gopal Gupta and Shyam Karrah, Director of Graduate Studies in the CS department. Fifteen graduating bachelor students with a GPA of 3.75 or higher and twenty-one graduating masters with a GPA of 3.9 or higher were presented with Certificates of Academic Excellence at the end of the luncheon.
