UT Dallas CS Department Ranked Among the Top 50 in Publications-Based Ranking

Over the past decades, groundbreaking research within the UT Dallas Computer Science Department has consistently been in the national and international spotlight. In the past few years, many UT Dallas Computer Science faculty members have been recognized for their excellence in research. They have earned numerous best paper awards including two 10-years-most-influential paper awards. Thirteen of the CS faculty members hold the prestigious NSF CAREER award, and three of them have been recognized as Air Force Young Investigators.

The website CSRankings.org recently published its rankings of Computer Science Schools based on the number of publications by faculty that have appeared in the most selective conferences in each area of Computer Science. The rankings are designed to identify institutions and faculty actively engaged in research across a number of areas of computer science. The UT Dallas Computer Science Department was ranked in the top 25 from 2015-2017 in all areas of Computer Science and fourth in the combined areas of Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, and Software Engineering. Specifically, the department achieved high rankings in Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, and Software Engineering.

The following are the rankings, for various ranges (rankings are subject to change):

  • 2007-2017: UTD CS ranked in the top 45
  • 2010-2017: UTD CS ranked in the top 40
  • 2012-2017: UTD CS ranked in the top 30
  • 2015-2017: UTD CS ranked in the top 25

This achievement in ranking is a direct result of CS Department’s strong emphasis on valuing excellence in research. The CS Department plans to continue to expand its research programs in areas of AI, software engineering, and cyber security to further bolster its research efforts in these areas. CS faculty have always had a strong record of UT Dallas was ranked 24th in computer science and 29th in software engineering worldwide in the publications ranking computed by Ren and Taylor and published in June 2007 issue of the Communications of the ACM. Similarly, UT Dallas was ranked 21st in the LinkedIn ranking of best Universities for software developers.
