UT Dallas CS Department Hosts AI Conference Focusing on Applications and Technical Foundations

With Artificial Intelligence (AI) saturating many aspects of our lives (e.g., smart speakers, voice recognition) and the prediction that in the future AI will a playing a more significant role in our everyday lives, it’s no wonder why AI is so popular. As a consequence, the UT Dallas CS Department was motivated to host an AI Conference for students, academics, and industry members this past April. The conference’s mission was to provide undergraduate students, graduate or Ph.D. students, academics, and engineers from industry with exposure to the most recent advances and developments in the field of AI and Machine Learning.  The Conference included hands-on workshops, a panel discussion on AI Industry trends, with industry speakers from Google, Adobe, General Motors, Microsoft, Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation (PCCI), Trend Micro, Digital Twin Labs, Infosys, GoAskJay, Harman Connected Services, and more. The event was sponsored by the UT Dallas CS Department, the Naveen Jindal School of Management, and the UT Dallas AI Society.

The Conference began with three parallel workshops in the morning followed by a panel discussion and technical and use-case talks led by prominent speakers from both industry and academia with networking opportunities throughout the day. The workshops, which are led by AI practitioners and professionals, worked to inspire its attendees while helping them to learn and build their skill set as well as grow their professional networks. The following is a list of the hands-on workshops included in the 2019 AI Conference, click here to read a more in-depth description of each workshop.

The conference started with a panel discussion by AI experts. Panelists addressed AI industry trends and the revolutionary way that artificial intelligence impacts everyday life. The panel discussion was followed by two parallel sessions—one on technical and foundational aspects of AI and another one on use-cases. The invited talks featured speakers who have directly contributed to successful AI and Machine Learning applications in their respective fields.
