UT Dallas CS Hosts IoT Conference for Academics, Industry Members, and Students
Earlier this semester, the UT Dallas CS Department hosted a one-day Internet of Things (IoT) Conference for students, academics, and industry members. The IoT Conference’s mission was to provide undergraduate students, graduate or PhD students, academics, and engineers from industry with hands-on knowledge regarding the most recent advances and developments in the IoT. The UT Dallas CS Department was motivated to host this conference because of the general growing attention paid towards the IoT. Techrover Solutions, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) served as the conference sponsors. The Conference included industry-led workshops, three academic speakers, and thirteen industry speakers from IBM, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, AT&T, Fujitsu, ThoughtWorks and more.
The Conference began with industry-led workshops, which included a hands-on Microsoft Azure IoT Guided Workshop led by Microsoft Architects, Ranga Vadlamudi and Kevin Saye, and an AWS IoT Workshop led by Anton Schmagin. Following the workshops, Greg Gorman, Director of the IoT Developer Ecosystem at IBM, delivered a talk titled, “The Power of One.” In his talk, Greg Gorman explores how citizen developers are transforming IoT development. During the latter part of the conference, attendees had the option to attend either technical or business-use case sessions, which ran parallel to each other. The conference ended with a closing address from Harold Pulcher, a Microsoft MVP, who delivered a talk titled, “Talk to Millions of IoT Devices Without Pulling Your Hair Out.” In his talk, Harold Pulcher explores Azure IoT Suite and explains how there is no reason to be overwhelmed or complicated by the idea of IoT technology.
