Executive Masters Program Graduates The First Cohort of Students

In June 2014, the Computer Science Department at UTDallas graduated its’ first cohort from the Executive Masters Program.  For 20 months, a cohort of seven students spent their weekends taking classes to give their careers a boost and earn a masters degree.

The mission of the Executive Master’s of Science in Software Engineering degree program offered by Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas is to provide practical, professional education to full-time software employees in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The 20-month program serves the needs of working professionals who seek an academic experience that meets their demanding schedule and is immediately applicable to their workplace. It aims to equip students with the skills necessary to claim positions of increasing professional responsibility throughout their careers.

The academic quality of the Executive Master’s of Science in Software Engineering is monitored by an executive committee consisting of full-time university faculty. Professional best practice is ensured by the advice of an advisory board drawn from leaders in the field of software engineering.

The classes meet on two Saturdays and one Friday each month, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.  The program moves along at a fast pace.  The admission process is also accelerated.  A GRE is not required.  The program includes five core courses and six electives.  Students, who already have industry experience, acquire the knowledge and tools to deliver robust, on-time, in-budget software systems.  They learn about state-of-the-practice methods and tools to specify, architect, design, construct and test software systems.  They also develop the skills necessary to manage software projects, developers and resources.

20 months for 20 students — Each cohort never exceeds 20 students.  Application submission deadline for the next cohort is July 8, 2014.
