Dr. Xiaohu Guo and his Collaborators Awarded the ACM SIGGRAPH 2023 Technical Papers Best Paper Award

This August, Dr. Xiaohu Guo, his PhD student Ms. Ningna Wang, and a team of collaborators received the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Computer GRAPHics and Interactive Techniques (SIGGRAPH)’s Technical Papers Best Paper Award for the paper titled “Globally Consistent Normal Orientation for Point Clouds by Regularizing the Winding Number Field.” ACM SIGGRAPH is a special interest group within ACM, and SIGGRAPH 2023 is the premier conference for computer graphics and interactive techniques worldwide. The ACM SIGGRAPH community is a global nonprofit organization serving the evolution of computer graphics and interactive techniques. With thousands of members across the world, the researchers, artists, developers, filmmakers, scientists, and business professionals of ACM SIGGRAPH are building the future of digital art and interactive design.

Elevating Education: A Conversation with Bhavani Thuraisingham, Taylor L. Booth Education Award Winner

Via IEEE Computer Society – Bhavani Thuraisingham’s impact transcends excellence within education, as she has made countless efforts within bridging the gaps between industry and academics. Additionally, she is the Founders Chair Professor of Computer Science, the Founding Executive Director of the Cyber Security Research and Education Institute (2004-2021), and the Co-Director of the Women in Cyber Security and Women in Data Science Centers at the University of Texas at Dallas. She is also a visiting senior research fellow at King’s College, the University of London.

ACM UTD Named Top Chapter for School Service

Recently, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) student chapter at The University of Texas at Dallas (ACM UTD) was recognized as the top ACM chapter for school service in 2023 and was awarded the 2022-2023 ACM Student Chapter Excellence Award for “Outstanding School Service.” Out of approximately 700 ACM student chapters worldwide, ACM UTD was selected by a panel of ACM judges for its four semester-long programs hosted each semester at UTD: ACM Projects, ACM Research, ACM Technical Interview Prep and ACM Mentor Program. These programs engage over 300 UT Dallas students each semester and give students relevant experience in software development, research, college and career mentorship, and technical interview practice.

UTD To Honor Newest Group of Endowed Chairs, Professors

The University of Texas at Dallas will recognize 14 outstanding faculty members at its 2023 Investiture Ceremony, to be held April 14 in the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building Lecture Hall.

Professor Thuraisingham Honored for Outstanding Record in Computer Science and Engineering Education

Dr. Bhavani Thuraisingham, Founders Chair in Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas, will receive the 2023 IEEE Computer Society Taylor L. Booth Education Award for her leadership in cybersecurity education, data science education and mentorship of members of systemically marginalized groups.

Dr. Bhavani Thuraisingham receives the IEEE Computer Society (CS) Technical Committee on Cloud Computing (TCCLD) Women in Cloud Computing Award

Dr. Bhavani Thuraisingham, Founders Chair Professor of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas, was honored with the 2022 Women in Cloud Computing Award by the IEEE CS TCCLD in December 2022. As stated by IEEE CS, TCCLD “provides a forum for members to broaden professional contacts, facilitates information exchange, and stimulates the growth of research, education, and industry in cloud computing.” The Women in Computing Award “Recognizes women leaders who have made outstanding, influential, and potentially long-lasting contributions in the field of cloud computing and solve real problems.” Thuraisingham has spent the past 16 years conducting research, education, and outreach activities in Secure Cloud Computing. She received this award for “Pioneering Contributions in Secure Cloud Computing with Applications in Big Data Security and Privacy and for mentoring Women in Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, and Data Science.”
