The University of Texas at Dallas recently joined a multi-university transportation center focusing on cybersecurity that is sponsored by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT). Clemson University, the lead university of this center, invited UT Dallas to join its proposal team due to the exceptional expertise UT Dallas has developed in cybersecurity and privacy over the past 20 years. The center will receive $20 million from the USDOT for 5 years to provide novel solutions to problems faced by the transportation industry.

ACM UTD Named Top Chapter for School Service

Recently, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) student chapter at The University of Texas at Dallas (ACM UTD) was recognized as the top ACM chapter for school service in 2023 and was awarded the 2022-2023 ACM Student Chapter Excellence Award for “Outstanding School Service.” Out of approximately 700 ACM student chapters worldwide, ACM UTD was selected by a panel of ACM judges for its four semester-long programs hosted each semester at UTD: ACM Projects, ACM Research, ACM Technical Interview Prep and ACM Mentor Program. These programs engage over 300 UT Dallas students each semester and give students relevant experience in software development, research, college and career mentorship, and technical interview practice.
City of Dallas likely targeted in ransomware attack, city official says

Via Dallas Morning News — Dallas officials say the city likely was hit with a ransomware attack, affecting 311, the municipal court and other departments on Wednesday. Dallas chief financial officer Jack Ireland sent a message to the mayor and City Council on Wednesday saying “a number of servers have been compromised” because of the attack. He didn’t specify which servers or city services were affected.
Grace Series Talks Continue To Empower With Final Speaker Of Spring’23 Series

The UT Dallas CS Department continued its Spring’23 Grace Series talks with Pallabi Parveen, a Principal-Big Data Software Engineer at AT&T. Pallabi earned her Ph.D. from UT Dallas while under the supervision of Dr. Bhavani Thuraisingham. The Grace Series recognizes women and their accomplishments with empowering talks that aim to foster a community for female technologists as well as grow the number of women and non-binary people in technology. These talks are intended to offer fresh perspectives and different approaches for women to navigate the technology field, whether in academia or industry. Since its inception, 40 speakers have given talks.
