ENDOWMENT HISTORY AND PURPOSE:

The Manju and Dr. Pradeep Kumar Graduate Fellowship was established in 2020 for the benefit of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (Jonsson School) at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas). Funds distributed from this endowment shall be used to award merit-based graduate fellowships for applicants pursuing a degree in computer science, as chosen by a committee duly appointed by the dean of the Jonsson School. Preference will be given to students who have completed all or part of their preparatory education in India.

SUMMARY OF ACTIVITY:

The following student will receive a $1000 scholarship funded by this endowment.  The student has a GRE score high enough to be admitted into the PhD program. Due to this scholarship, the student will receive an out-of-state tuition waiver. The savings in tuition will lead to a smaller student debt, and increase the likelihood of the student considering a future enrollment in the PhD program.

Divyam Ashok Patro

“I graduated with a dual degree (B.E. Chemical Engineering + M.Sc. Economics) from BITS Pilani, India in 2020. Then, I worked as a Data Scientist for ~2 years at a Fortune 500 company where I started developing interest in Machine Learning Infrastructure, a field that requires both: an understanding of how Machine Learning models work and a good grasp over the distributed systems that make those models possible for large scale applications. But there was one small problem: I felt that I lacked the fundamental Computer Science knowledge and mathematical maturity that would be needed to become an expert in this field. Pursuing graduate level education in Computer Science was the natural next step for me and I hope to take courses from the Data Science and Systems tracks at UTD. I am very pleased with my experience at UTD so far and hope I can make the most of my time here! Wish me luck.”
