Spring’23 Message from the CS Department Head

Dear friends,

The Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas had a busy and rewarding Spring semester, and we are looking forward to the summer months. This issue includes a snippet of the many student- and research-centered activities at the core of our department. We recently celebrated the end of the academic year with graduation ceremonies on May 12 and May 15, as well as a computer science graduation luncheon with students, family and friends.

Our department within the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science is among the four largest computer science departments in the nation and attracts top domestic and international students to its undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Our highly competitive, exam-based admission honors program, known as CS^2, continues to attract top high school graduates from around the country, and we received hundreds of applications for the fall 2023 semester. Job placement of graduating students remains strong while applications and admission into our computer science and software engineering degree programs continue to experience robust growth.

During Spring 2023, our department conducted the largest hiring search since I joined UT Dallas 23 years ago, with five new tenure track faculty joining in Fall 2023.

I wish you all a relaxing, joyful and rewarding summer, and thank you for your continuous support of the Department of Computer Science at UT Dallas.
