UT Dallas CS Faculty Members Recognized by H-Index Rankings for their Influential Research

Since its inception, groundbreaking research within the UT Dallas Computer Science Department has consistently been seen as influential and has been in the national and international spotlight. UT Dallas Computer Science faculty members are world-renowned for their research in emerging areas such as AI, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Data Science, and the Internet of Things. UT Dallas CS faculty members have received many best paper awards at various conferences, as well as many test-of-time awards, where a research paper is recognized for its long-lasting impact on the field. The research done by UT Dallas CS faculty members continually inspires researchers, decision-makers, and entrepreneurs around the world.

Last May, Guide2Research released its 6th edition of the annual ranking for top scientists in the area of computer science and electronics. Computer scientists’ and engineers’ ranking contributes to increasing the visibility and exposure of leading scholars who make impactful and influential contributions and are at the forefront of computer science research. Their ranking subsequently shines a light on the research institution or university with which the computer scientist or engineer is affiliated. The ranking is ultimately based on information from Google Scholar.

For the 2020 6th edition of the ranking, more than 6000 scientist profiles were examined with several indicators and metrics reviewed in order to consider each scientist’s inclusion in the ranking. The position in the ranking was based on H-index value from Google Scholar. Only scientists with an H-index >= 40 were considered.

The further evaluation step included a manual examination of each scientist’s list of publications on the DBLP bibliography server to ensure they are, indeed, authors of a significant number of computer science-related publications. The final step involved verification of awards and fellowships of each researcher. The detailed Guide2Research ranking for top computer scientists is available on the portal’s website.

In the 2020 Guide2Research University Ranking for Computer Science, UT Dallas is ranked 87th in the worldwide rankings and 50th nationally. The Guide2Reseach ranking includes all leading computer scientists affiliated with the University of Texas at Dallas. Among the 16 UT Dallas researchers were nine computer science faculty members. Below is the list of UT Dallas Computer Science faculty who were featured in the Guide2Research rankings:

  1. Zygmunt Haas (315 in the United States and 496 in the world ranking)
  2. Ding-Zhu Du (759 in the United States and 1270 in the world ranking)
  3. Bhavani Thuraisingham (950 in the United States and 1664 in the world ranking)
  4. Latifur Khan (1223 in the United States and 2242 in the world ranking)
  5. Murat Kantarcioglu (1317 in the United States and 2486 in the world ranking)
  6. Andrian Marcus (1382 in the United States and 2634 in the world ranking)
  7. Eric Wong (1693 in the United States and 3439 in the world ranking)
  8. Tien N. Nguyen (1752 in the United States and 3573 in the world ranking)
  9. Weili (Lily) Wu (1832 in the United States and 3801 in the world ranking)

The total sum for the H-index values for leading scientists at the University of Texas at Dallas is 733 with a mean value for the h-index of 52.36. The total sum for the DBPL publications for leading scientists at the University of Texas at Dallas is 3526 with a mean value for DBLP publications of 251.86.

The UT Dallas Computer Science Department has frequently found itself at or near the top of university rankings across diverse subject areas: csrankings.org ranked UT Dallas at eighth place for natural language processing, fifth place for software engineering, 11th place for artificial intelligence, and sixth place for embedded & real-time systems during 2010-2020.  Fifteen of our faculty members hold the prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER award—given to promising young assistant professor through a nationwide competition each year.
