IEEE International Conference on Healthcare Informatics (ICHI 2015) this October 21st-23rd

The third IEEE International Conference on Healthcare Informatics (ICHI 2015) will be taking place in Dallas, Texas, this month on October 21-23, 2015.  The conference, which is sponsored by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Computer Society and the Technical Committee on Intelligent Informatics, is the leading community forum concerned with the application of computer science principles, information science principles, information technology, and communication technology to address problems in healthcare, public health, and everyday wellness. ICHI 2015 has received in total more than 200 submissions from nearly 480 authors who came from 40 different countries.

ICHI 2015 serves as a venue for the discussion of technical contributions highlighting end-to-end applications, systems, and technologies.  The conference focuses on health informatics and related social and ethical implications. At the conference, researchers, practitioners, developers, and users will come together to explore and disseminate new ideas and results, as well as exchange techniques, tools and experience. ICHI 2015 conference is a 3-day program which will comprise 33 oral presentations, 23 poster presentations, 3 demos, 3 tutorials, non-refereed extended abstract posters, 16 doctoral consortium presentations, industry track with 3 refereed presentations and 4 invited presentations, and 6 healthcare data analytics challenge finalists. The conference will also hold 2 workshops. Within the course of this conference, The University of Texas at Dallas CS Department’s Dr. B. Prabhakaran and his research team consisting of Rittika Shamsuddin, Arvind Balasubramanian, and Amit Sawan will be presenting a research paper titled “Calculating Patient Similarity Based on Respiration Induced Tumor Motion.”

Faculty members from the UT Dallas Computer Science Department assisted in the preparation of ICHI 2015. Dr. Sanda Harabagiu, UT Dallas CS professor and Research Initiation Chair, worked with Dr. Wai-Tat Fu, CS professor at University of Illinois at Urbana, and Dr. Fei Wang, CS professor at the University of Connecticut School of Engineering, to successfully coordinate the program committee to review and select high quality submissions for presentations. Dr. Zygmunt Haas, UT Dallas CS professor and Distinguished Chair in Computer Science, and Dr. Gaurav N. Pradhan, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Scottsdale, Arizona, both ICHI 2015 workshop chairs, worked on reviewing workshop proposals. As a result of their efforts as workshop chairs, ICHI 2015 will be offering two workshops – (i) Smart and Connected Health, with 6 oral presentations, and 3 poster presentations; (ii) Health Information Quality with 2 Oral Presentations.

Prominent speakers in the realm of healthcare have been invited to give the keynote speeches at the ICHI 2015 conference. Dr. Andrew L. Masica, VP and Chief Clinical Effectiveness Officer of Baylor Scott & White Health will be delivering his keynote talk,” Applied Health Informatics Through the Lens of an Integrated Care Delivery System” which will focus on the role of healthcare analytics in an integrated care delivery system. Prof. Joydeep Gosh, a Schlumberger Centennial Chair Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas, Austin, will be discussing research challenges in building predictive models for healthcare, in his keynote speech titled “Towards Personalized Medicine: Building Predictive Models for ‘Segments of One’.“

The conference will include an Industry Track session, chaired by Dr. Prasanna Desikan, which will be featuring 5 invited speakers, including Dr. Vipin Gopal, Enterprise Vice President, Humana; Dr. Adam Wilcox, Medical Informatics Director, Homer Warner Center for Informatics Research; Dr. Ninad Mishra, Health Scientist, Center for Disease Control; Dr. Chris Lunt, VP Engineering, GetInsured; and Dr. Celette Skinner, Endowed Title Parkland Community Medicine Professorship, Department of Clinical Science, Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Industry Track will provide significant insights into the many different aspects of the healthcare industry.

ICHI serves as an international platform for researchers and practitioners from academic and industry to share their innovative research work on healthcare informatics with each other.
