Scholarships

Criteria

• U.S. citizen/permanent resident/international student
• Full-time incoming or current junior or senior pursuing an undergraduate degree offered by the computer science department (CS, SE or Data Science) in the Jonsson School
• Academic merit-based – minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA
• Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to students who (1) demonstrate the greatest potential for success in the field of computer science and/or software engineering and (2) demonstrate leadership abilities, community volunteerism or work experience
• The recipient must sign a release form in accordance with FERPA allowing UT Dallas to use application material for scholarship purposes

Renewable annually until the completion of an undergraduate degree or up to 2 years, whichever comes first as long as continue to meet criteria. If the recipient’s cumulative GPA falls below 3.3 and/or is no longer a full-time student, the recipient is given one semester to raise cumulative GPA to 3.3 and/or enroll as a full-time student in order to continue receiving this scholarship. If recipient is unable to meet the criteria at end of the probationary semester, then the recipient is no longer eligible to receive this scholarship

The Dr. Gopal Gupta Fellowship in CS Fund at UT Dallas is a scholarship that provides financial support to outstanding students pursuing a undergraduate degree in computer science at the University of Texas at Dallas. The Scholarship is named after Dr. Gopal Gupta, a distinguished professor of computer science at UT Dallas who has made significant contributions to the field of programming languages and logic programming.

Criteria

• U.S. citizen/permanent resident/international student;
• Full-Time (12 hours or more for the long semester) current UT Dallas student pursuing an undergraduate degree offered by the Department of Computer Science (CS, SE or Data Science) in the Jonsson School;
• Maintain a cumulative minimum UTD GPA of 3.33 or above;
• Must have at least two (2) semesters remaining to complete undergraduate degree in the Department of Computer Science;
• Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to applicants who are active in a UT Dallas registered student organization related to the fields of computer science and/or software engineering;
• Recipient(s) must sign a release form, in accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), allowing UT Dallas to use application material for scholarship purposes;
• If recipient continues to meet criteria, recipient may reapply annually to receive this scholarship until the completion of first undergraduate degree offered by the Computer Science Department or up to three (3) years, whichever comes first.

• Must not have been previously awarded a Goldman Sachs provided scholarship;
• Must not have already received other scholarship support totaling at least fifty (50) percent of tuition and fees;
• Must be a Junior or Senior undergraduate student pursuing a degree offered by the Computer Science Department (CS, SE Data Science) in Fall 2021;
• Must have at least two (2) long semesters remaining to complete undergraduate degree in the Department of Computer Science;
• Maintain a minimum UTD GPA of 3.5 or above;
• Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to applicants who are both in good standing with UTD’s Computing Scholars Honors Program and active in one or more of the following UTD student organizations: ACM, Women Who Compute, Society of Women Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, or Out in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics;
• The recipient must sign a release form in accordance with FERPA allowing UTD to use application material for scholarship purposes;
• The recipient is encouraged but not required to meet with a Goldman Sachs Representative at least once per semester for two semesters. Preferably in person, but a meeting via video conference, telephone or email is acceptable.

The dean of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science will have the broadest discretion in using the funds distributed from this endowment in the recruitment, retention and development of students enrolled in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science.

• Among equally qualified applicants, preference may be given to applicants who are or who have been recently active in the Society of Women Engineers and/or Women Who Compute, which are both registered UTD student organizations;
• Recipient must sign a release form in accordance with FERPA allowing UTD to use application material for scholarship purposes.

Criteria

• Be enrolled full-time each semester;
• U.S. citizen/permanent resident;
• Sophomore, junior or senior pursuing undergraduate degree in Jonsson School;
• Academic merit – minimum 3.0 UTD cumulative GPA;
• Must maintain minimum 3.0 UTD cumulative GPA for 2nd semester award;
• The recipient may seek another year of funding by reapplying.

Criteria

• Undergraduate student continuously enrolled Full-time each semester in Jonsson School with significant interest in Research;
• Academic merit – maintain 3.5 UTD GPA;
• Submit an ESSAY of 250 words or less showing significant interest in research with high potential for business, health and/or social impact;
• The recipient may seek another year of funding by reapplying.

Criteria

• U.S. citizen/permanent resident;
• Incoming or current full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Jonsson School pursuing a degree offered by the Department of Computer Science;
• Academic merit based – minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA;
• Demonstrate financial need by completing either financial statement or FAFSA;
• Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to applicants who are either active in a UTD registered student organization that promotes women in STEM or have made an
  impact toward advancing women in STEM through volunteerism, advocacy or similar activities;
• Recipient may compete for a second year of funding by reapplying;
• Recipient must sign a release form in accordance with FERPA allowing UTD to use application material for scholarship purposes.

Criteria

• Full-time undergraduate student majoring in degree offered in the Jonsson School;
• minimum 3.75 cumulative UTD GPA;
• Preference for students who have completed at least two years of undergraduate education in the Republic of Korea.
• Recipient may compete for a second year of funding by reapplying;
• Recipient must sign a release form in a accordance with FERPA allowing UT Dallas to use application materials for scholarship purposes.

• Undergraduate student in Jonsson School – preference given to engineering students;
• Maintain 3.0 UTD GPA to retain scholarship support;
• Recipients required to write acknowledgment letter to Regional VP of donor organization

The Dean’s Graduate Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship are awarded every Fall semester to incoming graduate students admitted in that Fall semester or the prior Spring semester. Scholarships are subject to the availability of funds and are awarded on a rolling basis. Students are encouraged to apply early.

ENDOWMENT HISTORY AND PURPOSE:

The Erik Jonsson Graduate Scholarship in Computer Science was established in 2018 to benefit the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (Jonsson School) at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas). Funds distributed from this endowment shall be used as a graduate scholarship to attract the world’s top scholars in computer science. The endowment will provide one-year graduate scholarships to incoming master’s students who have not received a teaching or research assistantship.

UT Dallas participates in National Science Foundation (NSF) funded Cybercorp®: Scholarship for Service (SFS) program. The program mainly considers students in our graduate-level (MS or Ph.D.) programs in Computer Science. UT Dallas students planning to pursue a BS+MS fast track dual degree (where the MS degree needs to be in computer science) can also apply for scholarships to support their BS+MS dual degree. Students who are not yet in the fast track program but qualify for the Fall semester start are also eligible to apply. Fast track students should be at most six long semesters away from their MS graduation date starting the Fall semester.

$15,000, multiple awards may be given.

This fellowship was established for promoting doctoral education in the Jonsson School at UT Dallas. Merit-based fellowship for doctoral students in the Jonsson School with competitive academic record and who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Students may apply for renewal of this fellowship for up to 3 years with a competitive GPA and good progress towards the doctoral degree.

• Full-time doctoral student in the Jonsson School
• Must have completed 9 semester credit hours of graduate course work at UT Dallas
• Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident

$5,000

This endowment was created to memorialize Professor Jan P. van der Ziel. will be awarded to doctoral student(s) in Engineering programs. Students may apply for renewal of this fellowship for up to 3 years with a competitive GPA and good progress towards the doctoral degree.

Criteria

• Full-time doctoral student in the Jonsson School
• Must maintain 3.6 minimum GPA and make good progress towards the doctoral degree to renew
• Must have completed 9 semester credit hours of graduate course work at UT Dallas

$2,000, multiple awards may be given.

This fellowship was established for promoting graduate research and education in the Jonsson School at UT Dallas. Merit-based fellowship for graduate students with a competitive academic record.

This scholarship was established to honor Mr. Phil Ritter for his leadership in advancing The Jonsson School and UT Dallas in the drive to achieve Tier One research status. Merit-based scholarship for graduate students in ECS with a 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA, who also demonstrate an interest in research areas with high potential for business, health, and/or social impact.

• 5 minimum cumulative GPA
• Must have completed 9 semester credit hours of graduate course work at UT Dallas
• Demonstrated interest in research areas with high potential for business, health, and/or social impact

‘Funds distributed from this endowment shall be used in accordance with the Regents’ Rules and Regulations and applicable policies and shall be used to award graduate fellowships as chosen by a committee duly appointed by the dean of the Jonsson School.

• Applicants must be incoming or current UT Dallas students.
• Applicants must be full-time students.
• Applicants must be pursuing a graduate degree in computer science in the Jonsson School.
• Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement.
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents or international students.
• Among equally applicants, preference will be given to students who have completed all or part of their preparatory education in India.
• Fellowship recipients may compete for a second year of funding, provided they are in good academic standing with UT Dallas.  Recipients seeking a second year of funding must reapply through the fellowship committee.
• Recipients must sign a release form, in accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), allowing UT Dallas to use application material for fellowship purposes.

Funds distributed from this endowment shall be used in accordance with the Regents’ Rules and Regulations and applicable policies and shall be used to annually award graduate fellowships of at least $1,000 per year as chosen by a committee duly appointed by the dean of the Jonsson School. It is the Donor’s intent that the distributions from this endowment be used to provide meaningful fellowships to the greatest number of students possible in any given year, specifically at least four (4) fellowships when possible.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Applicants must be incoming or current UT Dallas students.
2. Applicants must be full-time students.
3. Applicants must be pursuing a graduate degree in the computer science or software engineering in the Jonsson School.
4. Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement.
5. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents or international students.
6. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to applicants who have completed all or part of their preparatory education in India.
7. Recipients must sign a release form, in accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), allowing UT Dallas to use application material for fellowship purposes.

If the recipient(s) continues to meet the criteria, the recipient(s) will continue to receive the fellowship until the completion of his/her first graduate degree in computer science or software engineering in the Jonsson School or up to five (5) years, whichever occurs first.

ENDOWMENT HISTORY AND PURPOSE:

The Harsha Girish Veera Technical Excellence Fellowship for Computer Science was established in 2019 for the benefit of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (Jonsson School) at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas). Funds distributed from this endowment shall be used to award merit-based graduate fellowships to full-time UT Dallas students who are pursuing a graduate degree in computer science in the Jonsson School and have 2-3 years of work or volunteer experience in computer science. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to applicants who received all or part of their preparatory or undergraduate education in India.

ENDOWMENT HISTORY AND PURPOSE:

The Shalendra and Rashmi Singh Fellowship was established in 2022 for the benefit of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (Jonsson School) at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas). Funds distributed shall be used to award graduate fellowship(s) for full-time students pursuing a graduate degree in computer science or software engineering and who demonstrate high academic achievement.  Preference will be given to applicants who have completed all or part of the preparatory education in India.
